CFA UK’s mentoring programme has been running successfully for three years. We are looking for new working group members to continue the implementation and delivery of a successful mentoring programme in 2023/24. Our goal is to continually increase the size and scope of the programme and, over the course of the next year, we hope to match 100 pairs of mentees and mentors.

Purpose of the Mentoring Programme working group

The working group is responsible for leading on programme administration and assisting CFA UK’s staffed office with strategic oversight. This year’s programme will run throughout the year, recruiting mentees two times a year in themed cohorts, and mentors will be recruited continually throughout the year. Applications for the 2023/24 programme are scheduled to open before September 2023. This is a great opportunity to directly impact the professional development of CFA UK members and build your own personal networks.

Main activities:

  • Administration of the programme - reviewing applications, matching participants, monitoring progress, and reviewing and implementing feedback
  • Supporting the targeted recruitment of mentors to meet mentees needs - identify key needs of mentees and where more mentors with specific skills are required throughout the year
  • Facilitating Networking - support the delivery of regular virtual and face to face networking events for mentoring cohorts and alumni
  • Evaluation and strategic review of the programme - review and report successes and barriers, and provide suggestions for improving the programme year on year.

Who are CFA UK looking for?

  • Enthusiastic members who can strengthen and continue the delivery of the programme
  • Availability and commitment for monthly meetings to match mentees, analyse gaps in mentor experience, and support networking events
  • Ability to work with a group to shape ideas
  • Members with experience of participating in mentoring programmes (not essential) or a good understanding of the career development challenges faced in the industry for our membership.

What will you get out of it?

  • Build your profile within the CFA UK network of volunteers, the wider membership, and the industry
  • Develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills
  • Recognition for your contribution in delivering and promoting mentoring services to the membership
  • Opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded investment professionals
  • Volunteering brings a “shared experience” that has long-lasting benefits for your career.

Compliance Notes:

  • Group members should seek prior compliance clearance from their employers
  • Members will participate in a personal capacity and not as representatives of their employer.
