The CFA UK Alternative Data Special Interest Group (ADSIG) exists to inform the Society and the wider financial community about alternative data in respect of the financial services sector. It aims to do this through the provision of content, a forum for the sharing of ideas, and the creation of a community. It also provides opportunities for members to network and expand their knowledge of relevant market trends.

ADSIG is now looking for up to two volunteers to join its leadership group (LG). They would work with the two existing leaders of the group to form an expanded team and grow the new Alternative Data community.

Purpose and activities:

  • Support the growth and engagement of the SIG community
  • Assess the topics and content that would be of the most interest to the members of the SIG
  • Help curate and share content to spark discussion and engagement within the online community
  • Help find appropriate speakers/panels for webinars and/or live events in line with events delivery schedule.
  • CFA UK Events Team will provide a clear event delivery schedule for your group for H1 and H2
  • Hosting of regular virtual and live networking events for SIG members
  • Contribute in other ways to the creation of a community around the SIG

Who are we looking for?

  • Passion for the topic of alternative data
  • Desire to curate and post content on online platforms (CFA UK Connect)
  • The drive to create a community of similarly-minded individuals
  • Willing to access existing networks and create bridges to groups or individuals whose knowledge or expertise compliments the SIG’s area of activity
  • Willing to be responsive and creative in finding new ways of engaging the SIG membership
  • LG members are likely to be good networkers and competent online administrators
  • LG members will need to be able to jointly express a vision for the SIG and develop an annual operating plan and a long-term plan for the SIG with the others on the LG team

What will you gain from volunteering in this role?

  • Build your profile within the CFA UK network of volunteers, the wider membership and the industry
  • Develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills
  • Recognition for your contribution in shaping and delivering services to the membership
  • Opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded investment professionals
  • Volunteering brings a “shared experience” amongst peers that has long-lasting benefits for your career
