At the end of last year the FCA published its feedback statement PS20/17 reporting the findings of its consultation paper CP20/3 on Climate Change Disclosure Reporting and setting new rules for premium listed companies. The FCA also promised a follow-on consultation by June 2021 to:

  • extend the application of the comply-and-explain rule to a wider scope of listed issuers and consider strengthening the compliance basis to making some elements mandatory
  • introduce TCFD-aligned disclosures to a wider set of UK-authorised asset managers, life insurers and FCA-regulated pension providers.

A CFA UK volunteer working group helped to produce the Society’s responses to both above FCA publications last year.  Some members of this original working group wish to remain and help shape the Society’s responses to the FCA’s anticipated follow-on consultations, but we are seeking a handful of new volunteers to join them and provide fresh insights and views on the following questions:

  • Should elements of the TFCD framework now be incorporated on a comply-only basis?
  • Should TCFD reporting now be extended beyond premium listed companies?
  • What climate reporting rules should be applied to authorised asset managers and investment firms which are not premium listed companies?

The purpose and activity of this working group is to:

  • Author a letter in response to the FCA’s forthcoming consultation
  • Help host a webinar or event with the FCA’s climate reporting team on the proposals

Who are CFA UK looking for?

  • Individuals with a personal interest in climate change reporting
  • Members who are involved day-to-day both in the production or analysis of company accounts – corporate finance, credit & equity analysts, accountants, finance professionals
  • Availability for up to 12-18 hrs during Q3, 2021 (1-1.5hrs/week for 3 months)

What will you get out of it?

  • Access to personal development training
  • Learn more about developments in climate change reporting and policy making in this growing/important area
  • Increased network building
  • Opportunity to present your findings to CFA UK’s Professionalism Steering Committee
