Volunteer Opportunity Details

CFA UK’s Ethics Steering Committee (the Committee) is responsible for supporting, monitoring and developing CFA UK’s ethical content and support resources for the society’s members.

The Committee’s vision is of an investment profession where strong ethical standards are a benchmark requirement for all industry participants and ethical considerations are at the heart of all decisions made by firms.  In realising this vision, the particular mission of the Committee is to support the understanding and articulation of ethical standards in a way that serves the profession, society and members well.

The purpose and activity of the Committee is to:

• Ensure strong ethics are a key defining attribute of the Society’s identity;
• Facilitate regular discussion of ethical issues within the membership.
• Develop a wide array of resources for members to support ethical decision making; and
• Help the Society engage with firms as a thought leader in ethics training and initiatives.

We are looking for members of the Committee to support us with activities. Some of these include:

• Regular ethics book clubs.
• Interviews and podcasts with financial professionals on ethics.
• Virtual events and webinars for our members
• Developing and curating ethical content and support.
• Marketing and social media.

The support we are seeking from members of the Committee include:

• Helping us to develop or curate content (articles, videos, blogs etc) for members
• Taking responsibility for delivering on specific objectives.
• Helping to set up targeted working groups to work on specific projects
• Tracking member engagement with content and resources and participating in strategic discussions based on that data.
• Contributing to regular updates for members on ethics.

Who are we looking for?

• CFA UK members who are interested in ethical issues.
• CFA UK members who are willing to engage with, oversee, support and advise others.
• Good interpersonal, leadership, teamwork and negotiation skills to ensure volunteering is rewarding, inclusive and collaborative experience for everyone.
• CFA UK members who are keen to interact on Connect.
• Good content skills and contacts – vision to recognise key topics and editorial judgment.
• Diversity of perspective to represent the membership, for instance in terms of seniority in industry, background, gender etc.
• Availability for meetings every 6-8 weeks throughout the membership year via video conference calls.
• Availability to contact the relevant working groups and track their progress between meetings.
