Last year CFA UK established the Pensions Expert Panel (PEP) to address a gap in the society’s advocacy activity in the specialist arena of pensions.

In the course of the last year, under the joint leadership of Natalie Winterfrost, CFA and Alistair Byrne, CFA, the PEP has responded to consultations from the Financial Conduct Authority, the Pensions Regulator (“TPR”) and HM Treasury on pensions matters ranging from trustee education, RPI gilt market reform, Value for Money and ESG.

Purpose and activities of the PEP:

  • Respond to pensions related consultations at the request of the Society
  • Liaise with other CFA societies and CFA Institute on pensions related topics
  • Periodically meet with pensions trade bodies, regulators and other stakeholders to provide unattributed opinions on pension related topics
  • Contribute to CFA UK events involving pension related content and subject matter

Who are we looking for?

  • Volunteers with knowledge of pensions, fiduciary management and investment consulting
  • To complement the skills of existing PEP members, the panel are seeking pensions professionals with either ESG or Retail Investment experience
  • Volunteers keen to work in a group, but also willing to take delegated responsibility for components of the PEP’s output
  • Volunteers able to attend quarterly PEP meetings/calls and commit to occasional short bursts of engagement around distinct projects

How CFA UK will help:

CFA UK will provide guidance, advice and will support the coordination of the work. We will provide editorial support, will make requests for information on the group’s behalf and will work with the group to consider how best to bring members’ and other stakeholders’ views into the report and how best to share the report with them.

What you will gain:

  • Volunteering brings a “shared experience” amongst peers that has long lasting benefits for your career
  • Build your profile within the CFA UK network of volunteers, the wider membership and the industry
  • Develop leadership, communication and team work skills
  • Recognition for your expertise in an increasingly important field
  • Opportunity to meet and network with other like-minded investment professionals
