About the Sustainability Community

CFA UK’s Sustainability Community brings together investment professionals interested in how sustainability considerations are shaping investment practice, capital allocation and the wider investment industry.

The Community provides a space for members to exchange ideas, learn from practitioners and explore both the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainability across different asset classes and investment approaches.

We are looking for engaged and knowledgeable Community Champions to help us shape and grow the Community and ensure that its activities remain relevant, practical and closely connected to the issues investment professionals are dealing with today.

What you’ll do

As a Sustainability Community Champion, you will work alongside fellow Champions and the CFA UK team to:

• Help identify important and emerging sustainability themes relevant to investment professionals.
• Contribute ideas for the Community’s programme of webinars, in-person events, roundtables, discussions and other member activities.
• Recommend and invite relevant practitioners, speakers and organisations that could contribute to Community activities.
• Help develop content that reflects practical investment perspectives across areas such as sustainable investing, transition finance, climate, nature and biodiversity, stewardship, regulation and reporting, and sustainability opportunities across public and private markets.
• Support and occasionally host Community activities, including welcoming members, facilitating discussions, moderating sessions or contributing as a speaker where appropriate.
• Encourage discussion and knowledge-sharing between investment managers, asset owners, advisers and other relevant investment-industry participants.
• Engage with the Community between events and help us create an active and connected network of CFA UK members.
• Help promote relevant Community activities through your professional networks and LinkedIn.
• Provide feedback on Community activities and contribute ideas for how we can continue to improve and develop the programme.

Who we’re looking for

We are particularly interested in applications from investment professionals who:
• Are current CFA UK members.
• Have a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
• Work within an investment/asset management firm, asset owner organisation, investment bank, investment consultancy/advisory firm or another organisation directly involved in institutional investment.
• Have professional experience or a strong working knowledge of sustainability within investment, which could include sustainable investment, ESG integration, climate and transition investing, stewardship, impact investing, nature and biodiversity, sustainability-related regulation and reporting, or related areas.
• Have a good understanding of current developments and debates affecting sustainability and the investment industry.
• Can contribute a practical investment perspective, rather than approaching sustainability solely from a theoretical or advocacy perspective.
• Are collaborative, curious and willing to contribute actively to discussions and Community activities.
• Are comfortable sharing ideas, making introductions and helping connect CFA UK with relevant practitioners and organisations.
• Can commit approximately 40–50 hours per year and to serving as a Community Champion for at least 12 months.

We welcome applications from professionals working across different asset classes and investment approaches and particularly value a diversity of perspectives from asset managers, asset owners and advisers.

What’s in it for you?

Becoming a Sustainability Community Champion provides an opportunity to:

• Play an active role in shaping CFA UK’s sustainability programme and member community.
• Contribute to important industry conversations and help determine the topics CFA UK explores with its members.
• Build relationships with investment professionals working across sustainability, asset management and institutional investment.
• Develop your professional profile and expand your network within the CFA UK community.
• Strengthen skills in leadership, collaboration, communication, event facilitation and community building.
• Work alongside other experienced practitioners and exchange ideas and perspectives across different parts of the investment industry.
• Be recognised for your contribution to CFA UK and its membership.
Important note

Community Champions participate in a personal capacity as CFA UK volunteers. Participation does not imply that a Champion’s employer endorses CFA UK activities or any views expressed through the Community.

Community Champions are expected to contribute constructively and professionally and to support CFA UK’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment for discussion, learning and exchange between members.
