Purpose

Following on from the global success of the ESG Certificate in Investing and the recently launched Certificate in Climate and Investing, CFA UK is looking to develop a new qualification in Impact and Investing and is seeking practitioner subject matter experts to support the development and launch of the new qualification.

The Impact Investing Institute estimates that the UK impact investment market was worth an estimated £58 billion in 2020. Given the growing number of investors who are recognising their ability to facilitate positive and measurable change while realising a market-rate financial return, there is a clear need to increase knowledge and skills in this area. CFA UK is focused on providing the necessary tools to support the investment industry in managing this process.

CFA UK produces the syllabus and associated learning materials which are updated on a yearly basis, to ensure continued relevance and keep materials up to date which is essential in a fast moving space.

We are now looking to contract with authors / authoring teams to undertake the authoring for the learning materials with guidance and input from the Impact and Investing Panel to agreed timescales for:

  • Chapter 1: Introduction to impact and investing
  • Chapter 2: Impact investment philosophy, strategy and implementation
  • Chapter 3: Asset classes and products in private and public markets
  • Chapter 4: Impact investing sourcing and due diligence
  • Chapter 5: Impact measurement, management, monitoring and reporting
  • Chapter 6: Engagement

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking investment practitioners with subject matter expertise in the following areas:

  • Chapter 1 – key trends, characteristics, terms and challenges within impact investing.
  • Chapter 2 – impact investment philosophy, key frameworks and regulatory frameworks to select impact funds which meet client preferences.
  • Chapter 3 – applying the Impact Measurement Project’s impact class matrix across public and private markets and assessing key features of debt, equity and hybrid impact investments.
  • Chapter 4 – impact sourcing and due diligence in public and private markets and application of screening criteria.
  • Chapter 5 – impact management, measurement, monitoring and reporting; how measurement and management varies according to asset class; distinguishing between impact breadth, depth and duration; application of theory of change.
  • Chapter 6 – engagement approaches with investee companies and project managers; beneficiary engagement approaches and different types of engagement strategy and escalation.

What you will gain:

  • Insight into learning materials development and delivery and you will help to define and determine the benchmark knowledge required for the given topic areas.
  • Build your profile within the CFA UK network of volunteers, the wider membership and the industry.
  • The opportunity to meet an interesting and engaged group of fellow practitioners from a range of sectors
  • Volunteering brings a “shared experience” amongst peers that has long lasting benefits for your career

 Compliance Notes:

  • Group members should seek prior compliance clearance from their employers
  • Members will participate in a personal capacity and not as representatives of their employer
