Overview

CFA UK is seeking experienced and engaged investment professionals to volunteer as Generalist Mentors for an AI-focused student innovation programme. This initiative brings together students and industry professionals to explore how artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are shaping the future of investment practice.

Scope

Generalist Mentors will contribute their professional expertise to support both the evaluation and development stages of the programme. The role focuses on providing industry context, investment judgement, and constructive feedback rather than technical or coding expertise.

Key areas of involvement include:

  • Concept Evaluation: Reviewing and assessing early-stage submissions to identify the most promising and relevant ideas.
  • Mentorship and Guidance: Supporting student teams as they refine their solutions, offering insight into real-world investment considerations and professional best practice.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Evaluating final submissions based on innovation, relevance, and investment merit.
  • Industry Perspective: Helping students understand how AI and emerging technologies are currently being applied, and could be applied, within the investment profession.

What Will You Do?

    • Review and evaluate approximately 5 Stage 1 concept submissions (2-4 pages each) to select teams advancing to Stage 2 (estimated 2-3 hours)
    • Mentor student teams during Stage 2 solution development (2-3 hours over 4-6 weeks)
    • Evaluate Stage 2 submissions based on innovation, real-world relevance, and investment merit (estimated 2-3 hours)
    • Provide industry perspective and guidance on practical implementation
