    Hello Community!

I find this piece of news is so descriptive of the times we live in. Climate wars.

Exxon sues California over climate disclosure laws - Reuters article here. According to the company, California is violating 1st amendmend rights as they are "forced to speak". ExxonMobil scientists accurately predicted global warming in the 1970s, projecting a rise of about $0.2^\circ$C per decade due to fossil fuel emissions, according to a 2023 Harvard-led study published in Science.

Here's the quote from another BBC article: "Their excellent climate modelling was at least comparable in performance to one of the most influential and well-regarded climate scientists of modern history," Prof Supran said, comparing ExxonMobil's work to Nasa's James Hansen who sounded the alarm on climate in 1988.

California's policies are very influential, implications extend well beyond the US given that California is one of the world's largest economies.

Democratic-ruled California has long had some of the strictest environmental rules in areas like vehicle fuel efficiency standards and planning policy, after passing a climate change law in 2006. California passed two laws in 2023 that would require companies to publicly report their greenhouse gas emissions and climate-related financial risks.

ExxonMobil, being one of the world's most powerful companies can do so much more to embrace the future and to ensure that there actually IS a future.
