Last night we at CFA UK Sustainability Community hosted a fascinating discussion on Energy Security in 2026: Geopolitics, volatility, and where investors must act next with investors, infrastructure specialists and energy leaders exploring one of the defining investment and societal issues of our time!
What became clear throughout the evening is that energy security is no longer just energy sector conversation. It now sits at the intersection of geopolitics, inflation, industrial comptetitiveness, AI-driven power demand, infrastructure resilience and capital allocation.
From grid constraints and storage, to critical minerals, nuclear, renewables, cyber resilience and the growing electricity demands of data centers, the scale and urgency of the challenge is enormous! But so is the opportunity for long-term investors willing to think strategically.
A huge thank you to our panel host and speaker Jim Totty community champion, and panellists John Teahan with Redwheel Louise Piffaut with Aviva Investors Stephanie Kelly with the @The Resilient Investor and David Manuel with Beagle Llp (alco community champion)!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in London last night and contributed thoughtful questions!
The conversation also reinforced something important: We need far more cross-sector dialogue between capital markets, policymakers, engineers, utilities, technology leaders and infrastructure investors.
When you think about huge data centers, as investors, assess the climate change / physical risks exposure. Is the area going to be exposed to extreme heat, droughts in the next 10 years? Do the company has access to water?
We need to think strategically (and not give in to political games and frequent electoral turnovers) about resilience, affordability and national security.
This is a discussion we absolutely need to continue. So watch out for future events for CFA UK Sustainability Community!
