ESG is beyond redemption: may it RIP

The author of this article on FT Aswath Damodaran thinks that ESG is beyond redemption. Interestingly, at the end of the article you will find the responses to this article from The Wharton School and others. This might reflect the North American landscape more than Europe.

Interested in learning your views on this.

Havin attended classes of Prof. Damodaran last century, I think that he is missing the point, and looking at ESG as a "take it or leave it" principle, instead of looking at what is underlying to its existence: we are destroying the planet. The unexpected positive document issued at the closing of COP 28 is the best demonstration about it.

Another possible indication of dome degree of myopia of Prof. Damodaran's point of view: on McKinsey's "What matters most? Eight CEO priorities for 2024" document, published yesterday, one of priorities is named "The energy transition. Time is short". When we consider that moving away from fossil fuels is the key "E" factor of the ESG acronym, it seems premature to declare "ESG's death".
