  • 1.  Solar tree in your garden, anyone?

    Hello Community.
Today I'd like to share what I've learned about this growing trend - Solar Trees. I wouldn't mind having these trees in my garden, that would be capital!

Imagine a tree that doesn't just provide shade-but also powers homes, communities, and even cities. Solar trees is a rising innovation in renewable energy that's as elegant as it is efficient.

Unlike traditional solar farms that require vast land areas, solar trees use vertical space to generate power, making them ideal for urban environments, parks, campuses, and roadsides. They're designed to mimic the structure of real trees, with solar panels as "leaves" that capture sunlight from multiple angles.

A single solar tree can produce 3–5 kW of electricity, enough to power a small home or charge multiple electric vehicles daily. Larger installations can scale up to support community-level energy needs.

    Benefits:

    • Land-Saving: They require 95% less space than conventional solar farms, helping preserve forests and farmland.
    • Eco-Friendly Design: Solar trees can be integrated into green spaces without disrupting ecosystems.
    • Public Engagement: Their sculptural form makes them a symbol of sustainability, sparking conversations and awareness.
    • Smart Features: Many come equipped with EV charging stations, Wi-Fi hotspots, and battery storage.

    Investors:

    • Smartflower (Austria): Offers solar trees that track the sun like sunflowers.
    • SolarBotanic Trees (UK): Combining AI, battery storage, and solar tech for smart cities.
    • India's CSIR: Developed solar trees that generate up to 11,000 kWh/year

Would you invest in solar trees? Would you invest in solar forest?

Could there be funds where instead of offsetting with planting trees, solar forests could be planted instead? What advantages and disadvantages are thinking about?

Sounds a great idea in water deprived areas but I wonder what the holistic impact is vs having a mature tree sequestering and providing other eco-system  benefits (Mental Health, Cooling of areaetc..).

For Net Zero contribution may depend on timing and land use prioritization. oes a mature tree and ecosystem foot print sequester more carbon than generating the 3-5kW of electricity for the grid based on different energy mixes?
