Hello Community,
After my earlier post today on "circularity" of mineral resources, it got me thinking about the whole legacy of "old machines" from usually harder to abate industries. Humanity is on the road of energy transition moving away from fossil fuels. Although this road has huge bumps, that sometimes can seem unsurmountable, the ET is happening.
So what to do with the legacy of all the "old beasts"? Things like blast furnaces and mining machines? Their life span is around 20 years.
I saw this video from "Interesting Engineering" of the world's biggest mining vehicle called "The Bagger 293". 96 meters high and 225 meters wide, and weighs 14,200 tonnes. The beast can move 240,000 tonnes of earth daily. The lifespan of Bagger is 50 years!
Although the impact of these machines is monumental today, what is to become of them in the future?
It will be interesting to hear from those investing in harder to abate industries.
